Shaving? - Mark Atwood

Shaving?
I'm considering completely shaving my face for my birthday.

My facial hair is 16 years old. Maybe it's time for a change....

What does everyone think?

Go for it! If you don't like it, you can always grow it back.

Just think of the ecosystem of microscopic parasites you'll be destroying.

"fallenpegasus, destroyer of worlds!"

The cost of failure is absurdly low. Go for it.

I've been debating the same thing myself. The only thing currently holding me back is that I've gone full beard for the winter, and it does keep my face warm. I'm also giving some debate as to growing it out into a very Victorian beard. Then again, I lose 10 years when I go clean-shaven.

Nothing good will come of it.

I've taken the goatee off a couple of times, but I've only shaved the mustache twice in my life. (Once for a Russ Post costume).

And yet, I long for and have begged my partner to shave his mustache, as I think he looks much sexier without the 'stache. But not his beard.....

For comparison:
With beard, without mustache:

With beard & mustache (ie, current look):

And a (very young, but that's the last time he didn't have any facial hair):

The beard and mustache isn't bad, but he could probably keep it trimmed a bit shorter. I always keep my mustache clear of my lips.

He specifically likes it covering his upper lip. I have no idea why.

your facial hair wants twenty bucks and the keys to the car.

Do it and take a picture! It's just hair. It can always regrow. :)

Sure, why not... but then, I did shave my head last year, so perhaps I'm not the most able to accurately appraise the emotional effects of lopping of a significant part of one's visual identity.

I'm a fan of "with facial hair" more than "without".

I've found when people ask these kind of questions (another friend considered shaving her head), it's subconsciously a way of saying, "I'm going to make a radical change in my appearance, and I want people's support and encouragement." You're going to shave your face, and we will get used to it and probably like it.
