HP, just how badly can you suck? - Mark Atwood
HP, just how badly can you suck?
To print my boarding pass, I've plugged in the HP DJ 3915 I have had sitting about.

Now my laptop is downloading a 103MB "driver update" from HP.

Someone needs to explain to HP what a "printer driver" is and is not.

I suspect it's a fairly dumb printer, as these things go, and the "printer driver" contains a full rasteriser and other sundry.

I concur, HP Has gotten.. sucky. The printer 'drivers' are approaching MalWare with stuff like ink level monitoring that invokes your browser with a site to order more ink when you get low..

I'm beginning to miss my old Epson tractor feed..

Printer driver you crazy! Har har.

Yeah, the whole "downloadable firmware" thing is getting out of hand - maybe you could boot Linux on your printer ...

Ok, that's CREEPY.

I clicked thru to read the comments on this post, and at the exact same moment, Software Update popped up. Turns out it wants to download and install a 52.5mb HP Printer Drivers Update.

For even more fun, HP's update software can't seem to recognize that I've got an internet connection 80% of the time.
