Dell trademarks "Cloud Computing"
Dell has obtained a trademark on the term "Cloud Computing".

People have been talking about computing in the cloud for years now, and network designers have been using a cloud icon to indicate "services on the internet out there somewhere" for over a decade.

This trademark needs to be killed, it born generic.

Damn you guys are fast...

I still can't believe this went unnoticed for almost 18 months!

You can (probably) make that "over two decades". I used ISO 7-bump clouds to designate "network, specifics not necessary for this drawing" in, er, 1993 at least. My impression at the time was that it was well-established symbology.

Back in the late '80's when Apple ran a contest for "Design the Personal Computer of the future" among their consortium schools, I wrote Drexel's second entry alone. I proposed a networked distributed computing system. Basically everyone's personal computers could Compute stuff for others during their idle time.

The Official entry from Drexel was a computer build from bits that plugged together like Lego bricks as the Bus.
