Pownce and Twitter and Dodgeball
I am really looking forward to the day when brad's essay Thoughts on the Social Graph comes to fruition, so that doing this is automatic...

I've got yet another social network account, this time on Pownce. If you've got an account there, feel free to add me. At first glance, it seems to be like Twitter, but also can send images and files. (If you have a Twitter account, feel free to "follow" me there.

This is the third instant-status social graph systems I know of. I've also got a Dodgeball account, if anyone wants to "follow" me there as well.

Update: Pownce not recommended.

fter playing with Pownce some, I'm not all that impressed. It has no SMS interface, no IM interface, no post-by-email interface, no post-by-Atom interface. Updates must be done via the web form, and alerts are via email and via the web. Also, it's slowwwww. It's not queueing properly, and it's scaling poorly as it grows. And the fact that it, according to it's dev blog, go down just because a power strip burns out, does not inspire me. What is it running on? Three used Dell desktops running in some shared space in cheep-racks-r-us?

Twitter can and should add handing images (via email, xmmp, and sms mms) and also file transfer (by adding a "yousendit.com" style file store), and will blow Pownce out of the water.

That's not entirely true.

There's also a sucky AIR desktop client. Yes, that new Adobe thing. I don't know how Pownce has been getting so much good press. Or how much press at all, since I haven't really heard nearly as much about Dodgeball.

Oh, and today I was taking some kind of survey thing and it asked about blogs, as well as things like Twitter and Jaiku and Pownce. It called them "presence networks". I almost puked. OK, not really but....ugh.

Hah! My first thought was "it's like blogging with comments, but with the blogging turned off. Just comments".
