Buying a replacement laptop
My laptop, amsu, an IBM-TP-T23, has been getting more and more flakey. It eats its batteries, occationally hangs on boot, and now this evening when it booted up, it didn't get carrier on it's ethernet port. So I just placed an order from IBM.com for a refurbed IBM-TP-T40. I'd have rather waited until I was drawing an income again, but having a computer is a mandatory possession. Without it, no future income will be possible.

I can relate.

When I moved up to the bay area, I had no job and limited money, and was going to be couch surfing for nine months. But I borrowed the money for a huge widescreen Dell 9300. It was just portable enough to be set up easily wherever I lived, and turned out to be a necessity: job hunting, resume writng, research, keeping in touch with wife and friends, keeping me sane. And the mmorpg...that fell in the "keeping sane" category.

Which is why probably all of our computer purchases in the future will be laptops.
