I don't care very much for modern library architecture. In fact, I don't much care for any "modern architecture". (Anyone who has known me for a while has probably heard my sneer the phrase "... an architect with a vision".) I love these pictures of beautiful old libraries.

Library porn, yay! (Try working in a place with '70s burnt orange furniture, ugh.)

Well now lad, you need to remember that those old european libraries were never intended to be mere repositories for books. They are cathedrals of enlightenment and knowledge. They were designed to life the spirit up as they inspired one with the value of knowledge for its own sake. What we call libraries today are but public warehouses for books.

I think I like HANDELINGENKAMER TWEEDE KAMER DER STATEN-GENERAAL DEN HAAG, the best of these. God those are gorgeous. I didn't get to see much of the NY library, but what I did was gorgeous.
