Tue July 25, Vinge instead of Knuth
On Tuesday, July 25th, instead of Knuthing, I will be listening to Vernor Vinge do a reading at the SFM. If any of you are interested in diamond crystal hard SF from someone who understands computers and networking, I recommend him to you.

Vernor Vinge Reading

07.25.067:30 PM - 9:00 PM
JBL Theatre, located next door to SFM in EMP
325 5th Avenue North
Seattle, WA 98109

July 25 - Vernor Vinge's vastly entertaining fiction leaps from current technological innovations to startling yet sound conclusions. A professor of mathematics and computer science, he created the concept of "The Singularity." Defined as the point at which the future becomes incomprehensible to humans, the Singularity is triggered in most stories by super-intelligent computers learning to self-program. Vinge set his most recent novel Rainbows End in the same universe as his third Hugo Award winner, 2002 short story "Fast Times at Fairmont High." He is Clarion West's 2006 Susan C. Petrey Fellow.
