After travelling, a discovery.
As I was going thru my pockets while looking for my keys, I discovered this.

It's 26cm long, with a 8cm edge, and masses 80g. It's got a strip the hair off the back of your arm edge. The TSA x-rayed the jacket it was in. Twice. At two different airports. And missed it both times.

And yet these keystone kops continue to look for bombs in shoes, strip search little old ladies, and confiscate nailfiles.

What are they good for, exactly, again?

I remember flying home from .us, taking off from Boston. They searched me for some time, the detector going off at the small rivets on my jeans (WTF?). They didn't find/confiscate the nail file I carry in my wallet, though...

I've flow cross-country with a Leatherman in my carry-on since 9/11. (The tool, not... nevermind...)

I have 2 metal hips so despite the card I carry with me from my surgeon, security still gets to 3rd base with me every time I fly.

My Iraqi-born friend Usama flew across country in October of '01 with three veiled women (cousins) to go to his aunt's wedding. The screener was looking over her shoulder the whole time his bags were being x-rayed. I'm glad they didn't hassle him, but what the hell did we pour all this money into tsa for again?

Didn't they recently back off the pocket knife and scissors regulation?

They're good for making you feel safe while simultaneously oppressing you more than "terrorists" ever could on their own.

BTW, there's gaming at the Lunaverse on Wednesday night. I'm not in your friends list, so I figured you wouldn't get the info via Live Journal. :)
