I just had a weird misread, and now the phrase is stuck in my head, looking for a meaning.

The Strong Anthropic Principle is the one that states the universe is the way it is by design, that the universe is required to have the state it's in such that it supports life. This can either be viewed tautologically (in which case it doesn't say anything), or consequentially (in which case you've got "intelligent design").

Following from that, the Strong Misanthropic Principle simply states that the universe being the way it is doesn't give a w00t about humanity or, from design, the universe is the way it is because the designer flaming hates us and wants us to live miserable little lives before we snuff it.

I can subscribe to that.

In fact, I think I'd like to have it on a plaque, somewhere.
