Turns out that it wasn't my fault that amsu's filesystem weirded out last weekend. The main harddisk failed utterly on powerup this morning. Who knows it's history, it had been part of one of the past scanky refurbs. Fortunately, I had run a backup last night, and so lost only a minimal amount of work.

Backups good.
