The operative question is, did the letter writer predict the future activities of the anti-war protestors if they "win"?

My personal feeling is "yes".

Yes: If the white house doesn't get it's way, people will relax and stop worrying.

Is this hypocrisy? No.

Just because you don't want cruelty committed in your name, doesn't mean you've made a life-long commitment to end cruelty EVERYWHERE.

Though, I think many first-time activists will come out of this with a greater sense of mission, and a drive to help end cruelty everywhere.

Not to slight those who DO engage all their spare time in figuring out how to end cruelty. We have a deep debt to these people, such as Noam Chomsky, social theorists, commune organizers, deep activists such as the moveon team, etc.,.
