Finished packing and such last night and this morning. amsu is backing itself up right now (fortunately, I can ssh into it when I bring it to work). But unless the backlight magically starts working again sometime in the next handful of hours, I'm going to be offline until *next* Wednesday.

I will be keeping my personal journal using ink and paper for the week, and will digest it into a trip report upon my return. Plus, I've got half a GB of compactflash space, so my camera is unlikely to overflow.

For when you get back and have time to deal with it, you know about IBM's direct parts order system, yes ? If you can work out which bit is broken and get the part number off it (or find the parts breakdown documentation from IBM's support site; it's usually there but not the easiest of things to find) you can order parts yourself for less than I've found them used.

The other route I normally use for parts is finding one of the same model laptop on ebay with a broken screen or similar.

I'm an utter luser w.r.t. the guts of laptops. I can handle peecee kit, but for laptops, one of the very best laptop repair companies is Seattle Laptop, right here in Seattle.

I'll trade some money for some aggrivation here, and let them do it.

But thanks for the pointer.
