I spent two hours on the phone with Comcast getting my cablemodem set up. The tricky bit was that I didn't want them to ship me one of their boxes with a CM, a piece of cable, a splitter, and a filter. (I work for a company that does cable modems. The folks down in cable engineering *gave* me all that stuff for the asking, just to get some of it out of their way.)

Fortunately, I ended up talking with a useful and clueful tech guy, and he hacked and slashed at their back end, while we chatted about fibre-to-the-home, metro area megabit wireless, self provisioning, and MOXI boxes (the thing that my employer makes) (he wants one).

Finally got it all working, and I have working DOCSIS.

Next step, port my home telephone over to a VoIP service. Then I shut down my POTS, my DSL, and my ISP.

Comcast locally (richmond.va.us) had a pretty annoying TOS last time I checked (I want to run my own DNS and mail). There were some privacy issues, as I recall, as a friend moved off of them b/c of them. Is it better there? If so, I should see if they've changed here.
