Answering strangers questions on Twitter

Twitter has a feature where I can get public tweets that contain keywords of interest to me.

One of the keywords I watch for is "OAuth"

On occasion, someone tweets a question I can answer.

But because they are not following me on twitter, I can't just send back a direct message.

And when I look at their page at http://twitter.com/username, they havn't seen fit to include an IM address.

And when I look at other pages they have linked to themselves, there is still no IM address, and often no email address.

So they've asked a question, I have a good answer for them, and I have no good way to get it back to them.

This is annoying, it's a piece of friction that interferes with the world getting smarter...

I have the best work environment ever, and a trip to the vet, meeting a bookstore owner

I'm working at Remedy Tea, sitting outdoors for a while. I have a black & gold sarong I got in Hawaii as a tablecloth, a put of #5 "mental booster" tea, and an interesting little job, reviewing a patch against MySQL 5.0 that was submitted by a very large internet company.

I have Zhenya sitting at my feet. I almost forgot that today was checkup at the vet, until I walked by the vet, remembered, then ran back to the house, to leash him up and bring him back. He's well and healthy, tho he could use to lose a kilo or two.

Just in front of me at the vet was the owner of Twice Sold Tales, with one of the new shop cats there for shots and alter. He was fostered from King County Animal Control, who were supposed to be the ones to alter all their fostered kittens, except they "forgot" in a beaucratic foulup. King County just recenly increased the cost of pet licensing by a significant multiplier, and most of the raised money is to pay for the people to enforce the new fee. Talk about "government as 'protection' racket" laid naked and bare!

"Give me your gmail password, find your friends"

So there are all these sites that ask for my Google/Hotmail/Yahoo password, so they can scrape my addressbook and discover who of my friends and contacts is also on their system.

But they don't actually let me upload a vcard or CSV file of contacts to do the same thing.

So very stupid, twice over.

The most recent offender for me about this is last.fm

Plus now, they should just be able to ask for my livejournal/facebook/mysql/FOAF URLs, and walk my contacts lists that way.

So, stupid, three times over.
