Doctor Visit

Went to see Dr Travis this morning. I go for years and years without a visit to a GP, and now, in the last few years, I've gone half a dozen times. Learned that he's moving to a new clinic in Fremont, not far from the Lenin statue, and so I decided to "follow" him, and filled out the paperwork authorizing the creation of the paperwork to enable the transfer of my paperwork. (Heh.)

Then he poked and prodded at my gut, looked at the sides of my eyes, and ordered an ultrasound and bloodwork, and we talked about some possible causes. The nurse took my blood right then, but I couldnt get an appointment for the ultrasound until the 16th, the Monday after I get back from Alaska.

While he was poking, I really couldn't tell if it hurt or not. Certainly it didnt like it did when Vidar was working me over on his massage table this weekend, which is what prompted this whole little excursion. Maybe he hit my gallbladder instead of my liver.

Work is grinding grinding grinding. The project du jour consists in part of multicasting SDTV and HDTV MPEG streams over IP out of a magic box plugged into our in-building cable headend (just one of the things you have when you build boxes for the CATV industry), to be received by new software in our box, and then handled like any other media stream. No coax. We're even running other lower bandwidth multicast apps inside our building's ethernet, that work Just Fine. But this, sometimes it work, and sometimes it doesn't. It's giving our switches fits, and that's something we didn't count on at all. And, of course, while the IT guys are doing their best to support us, they are massively understaffed and overworked. (Who's *brilliant* idea was it to cut our IT staff from a dozen to three, slap down a hiring freeze, and then greenlight lots of funky weird network-centric projects?)

I'm glad I get to stop thinking about it again for a week this coming Sunday, but I so want this to work.

I was hoping/planning on going to the Grind tonight, but I'm going to be working into the evening instead.

I had a social visit schedule last night that I completely accidentally blew off, stood 3 fun people up for dinner. Comes from being so stunned getting back into the "real world" I didn't open my PDA or turn on my `phone all that day. It was more than a little embarrassing.
