A vile looking cake

(my sister jatg just called and asked me to post this so she could make it for a Hallween party tomorrow. I last made it a few years ago for the annual Weird Food Party at The Haunted here in Seattle, and it was a hit. Of sorts. Only a few brave souls dared try it, tho it's actually quite yummy and sweet.)

Kitty Litter Cake

  • 1 Spice or German Chocolate Cake Mix
  • 1 White Cake Mix
  • 1 large pkg Vanilla Instant Pudding Mix
  • 1 pkg White Sandwich Cookies
  • Green Food Coloring
  • 12 small Tootsie Rolls
  • 1 NEW kitty litter box
  • 1 NEW kitty litter box liner
  • 1 NEW pooper scooper
  1. Prepare cake mixes and bake according to box directions (any size pan).
  2. Prepare pudding, chill until ready to assemble.
  3. Crumble sandwich cookies in small batches in food processor, scraping often. Set aside all but 1/4 cup.
  4. To the 1/4 cup of crumbs add a few drops green food coloring and mix using fork or shake in a jar.
  5. When cakes are cooled to room temp, crumble into a large bowl.
  6. Toss with half the remaining cookie crumbs and chilled pudding. You probably won't need all the pudding, mix the cake and "feel" it, you don't want it soggy, just moist; gently combine.
  7. Line litter box.
  8. Put mixture into box.
  9. Put 3 unwrapped Tootsie Rolls in microwave safe dish and heat until softened.
  10. Shape ends so they are no longer blunt, curving slightly.
  11. Repeat with 3 more Tootsie Rolls and bury all 6 in cake mixture.
  12. Sprinkle the other half of the cookie crumbs over top.
  13. Scatter green crumbs lightly over top (chlorophyll in cat litter).
  14. Heat 3 Tootsie Rolls in microwave until almost melted.
  15. Scrap them on top of the cake and sprinkle with cookie crumbs.
  16. Take one and heat until pliable, hang over side of litter box, sprinkle with cookie crumbs.
